IAMANEH Switzerland developing postcolonial perspectives

“Decolonization” in the world of development cooperation is often equated with the goal of building equitable partnerships between organizations in the North and their “local partners” in the South. But how equitable can we be, if our development NGOs in the North are considered international, while the NGOs we are funding in the South are considered local, no matter how many organizations from different donor nations they are reporting to? IAMANEH Switzerland has long been aware of the challenge of equitable partnerships in an unequal world. However, it takes courage to understand these inequalities as part of the (neo) colonial structure we are all still implicated in. Here is how our journey began.

IAMANEH Schweiz Um die Öffentlichkeit auf die Situation von Frauen weltweit aufmerksam zu machen, hat IAMANEH Schweiz das Filmfestival frauenstark! initiiert. Das Filmfestival «frauenstark!» findet jährlich im Rahmen der internationalen Kampagne «16 Tage gegen Gewalt an Frauen» im kult.kino atelier in Basel statt. Beginn: Donnerstag, 25. Filmfestival: 5 Jahre frauenstark!

KAMPAGNE: 16 TAGE GEGEN GEWALT AN FRAUEN

IAMANEH Das Filmfestival frauenstark! findet vom 25. bis 30. November 2020 während der 16-Tage-Kampagne gegen Gewalt an Frauen im kult.kino Basel statt. Startschuss ist am 25. November. Gezeigt werden sechs Filme rund um das Fokusthema «Gegen Gewalt an Frauen». Nach der erfolgreichen vierten Austragung verkündet IAMANEH Schweiz stolz die Fortsetzung des frauenstark! Filmfestivals. Die internationale Kampagne «16 Tage gegen Gewalt an Frauen» vom 25. November bis 10. Dezember bildet den ideellen Rahmen des Festivals. Wir zeigen den ersten Film, «Papicha», am Mittwoch, 25. November. Der letzte Film geht am Montag, 30. November über die Leinwand.

The invisible threat

Covid-19 and access to justice for women and girls-in Albania

The Covid-19 pandemic challenged the mental health of the most vulnerable, including the victims and survivors of domestic violence. It increased the burden of unpaid care and domestic work, income loss, and the effects of the lockdown contributed to higher rates of stress and anxiety among women. In Albania, with a considerable share of informal employment, vulnerability is exacerbated by a weak social protection system and uneven spread and availability of services for those in need. CSOs demonstrated flexibility in adjusting their services to the new context, yet they are faced with considerable challenges.

Gender transformative approaches for sustainable change in gender relations

What role for partners in the global North?

The body of research on the quality of projects applying gender-transformative approaches and their effectiveness is growing. However, a key prerequisite for the successful initiation and sustainability of gender-transformative processes receives little attention so far: the importance of a full buy-in – or “transformation” - of those that directly engage with populations. For IAMANEH Switzerland, this guides the way for the engagement of ‘Northern partners’, from a role as ‘drivers’ and supporters of gender-transformative interventions, to a role as facilitators and coaches of local civil society partners as important agents of change towards a sustainable transformation in gender relations.
