The path to longer and healthier lives for all Africans by 2030: the Lancet Commission on the future of health in sub-Saharan Africa

The Lancet "Africans can be proud of many successes in health such as longer life expectancy, reduced maternal and child mortality, and greater control of HIV and malaria epidemics. However sub-Saharan Africa faces the well known challenges of conflict, urban and rural exclusion, environmental degradation, and brain drain.

The path to longer and healthier lives for all Africans by 2030—was established in 2013 and led African physicians, scientists, and policy makers to chart a vision of the future and roadmap for improved health of sub-Saharan Africans. The Commission has nine key messages ranging from the creation of people-centred health systems to promoting stronger more effective regional cooperation. If the right policies are implemented, and if African leadership is truly empowered to utilise the human resources assets of an ever growing youthful region, unrivalled prosperity and health will be the prize by 2030."
