SRHR Meeting point on „Human rights based approaches to Sexual and Reproductive Health“

MMS is embarking on a sexual and reproductive health and rights survey among its partners. After several consultations with the Swiss TPH we decided to focus on the transversal theme of human rights based approaches to SRH. With the study we aim to generate general knowledge and clarity on the elements of a human rights based approach (HRBA) to SRH of MMS members.

In order to achieve the targets set under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 “Good Health & Wellbeing“ and SDG 5 “Gender equality” the underlying principles will be international human rights standards. By applying a human rights-based approach to NGO work in policy formulation, institutional strengthening and programme design, implementation and evaluation, sexual and reproductive health can be strengthened.

For the meeting point we have the honour to welcome Mrs Nonjabulo Mahlangu from the Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) in Zimbabwe. Mrs Mahlangu has over 10 years of experience in supporting the rights of youths with emphasis on girls and young women to access quality reproductive and maternal health care services through capacity building and mentorship activities.

The aim of the meeting point is:

  • To discuss the importance of human rights approaches for the advancement of sexual and reproductive health
  • To attuned ourselves to the upcoming MMS survey with “human rights based approaches” as our cross-cutting theme to sexual and reproductive health for all
