Tuberculosis deaths rise but global fight against disease is paying off, report says

"Tuberculosis killed more people than HIV and Aids for the first time last year, according to the annual TB report from the World Health Organisation (WHO). Although the number of people killed by TB has almost halved over the past 25 years, 1.5 million people died from it in 2014 compared with 1.2 million from HIV and Aids.

(...) The report urges the world to close the gaps between detection and treatment, fill the funding shortfalls and develop new diagnostics, drugs and vaccines." (Photo: Parilily Bibi with her baby Muskan Bibi who is 4 months old, they both have Tb © Donna Todd / flickr)
