Community health workers apply local knowledge to save lives in emergencies and disasters

World Health Organisation (WHO) Community health workers are in many countries of the South an indispensable resource of the health system. Although they are often not recognized as such, they are the ones who have the required cultural knowledge and are aware of the people in the community who are particularly vulnerable.
