Looking at the poorest

STAT Non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, etc. are responsible for 70% of deaths worldwide, two thirds of which die in developing countries. Although many of these diseases are caused by so-called "lifestyle factors", recent studies reveal the disastrous link between poverty, non-communicable diseases and injuries.

As Tedros wants to improve the health of the poorest population, he has to focus on these relations, both to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to achieve universal health coverage. (Photo: The neighbours/BBC World Service/flickr, CC BY-NC 2.0)
