WHO: Countries Need To Step It Up On Noncommunicable Disease Commitments

IP-Watch "Despite “remarkable” progress by some countries on addressing noncommunicable diseases like cancer and diabetes, there is a need to accelerate efforts in order to meet agreed global commitments, the World Health Organization said this week.

The WHO reported on a global survey entitled, “Assessing national capacity for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases.” The survey shows that “some countries are making remarkable progress,” it said. “A number of countries have put in place measures to protect people from exposure to tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.
