Why the number of people with more than one chronic condition is rising in Africa

The Conversation Globally, multimorbidity has increased in recent years, but especially in Africa. Until a short time ago people of Africa have been suffering mostly from infectious diseases. In the meantime it is increasingly common that a person in addition to an infectious also developes a chronic disease.

Especially people who are already disadvantaged economically and socially have a great risk of multimorbidity, which is an additional enormous financial and psychosocial burden for them. The problem can only be solved if factors are taken into accouont which are lying outside the health sector. South Africa has just begun to consider innovative models.
