(D) MMS | Jedes Jahr sterben Millionen von Menschen an leicht behandelbaren Krankheiten. Das Recht auf Gesundheit bleibt in vielen Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern ein unerfülltes Postulat. Der Zugang zu guten Gesundheitsdiensten und sicheren Medikamenten ist für die dort lebenden Menschen hürdenreich oder ganz versperrt. Was tun Politik, Industrie, Wissenschaft und Zivilgesellschaft, um die Situation zu verbessern? Eine Veranstaltung des Instituts für Soziologie der Universität Basel, der Katholischen Universitätsgemeinde Basel und des Netzwerks Medicus Mundi Schweiz.

Fussball-WM in Südafrika. Wer siegt gegen HIV?

Afrique du Sud SolidarMed | Die Länder, in denen SolidarMed arbeitet, sind sich nicht gewohnt, dass der Fokus der Weltöffentlichkeit auf sie und ihre Probleme gerichtet ist. Mit der Fussballweltmeisterschaft im benachbarten Südafrika ändert sich dies für einen Moment grundlegend. Gerne nutzen SolidarMed diese Chance um Fragen zu diskutieren, die sich bei der erstmaligen Austragung der WM in dieser Region aufdrängen. Von den Sportlern wird erwartet, dass sie Mitte Juni 2010 gesund sind, ansonsten spielt das Team ohne sie. Im südlichen Afrika bedeutet Gesundheit weit mehr. Der Begriff ist verbunden mit der Chance, aus einer Spirale der Armut zu entfiehen. Diskutiert wird das Afrika neben dem Sportanlass, allem voran die Bedrohung durch HIV/Aids für die Menschen in der Region. Dabei soll die Vorfreude auf das Turnier nicht getrübt werden. Im Gegenteil! Unter anderem mit Marcel Stutz, dem ehemaligen Schweizer Botschafter in Zimbabwe und heutigen Afrika-Verantwortlichen beim EDA. 10.00-12.00 Uhr, Richemont, Seeburgstrasse 51, Luzern.

Executive Course on Global Health Diplomacy

IHEID | The Global Health Programme at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva has launched its application period for its annual executive course on global health diplomacy. Diplomacy is undergoing profound changes in the 21st century - and global health is one of the areas where this is most apparent. The summer course will focus on health diplomacy as it relates to health issues that transcend national boundaries and are global in nature, discuss the challenges before it, and how they are being addressed by different groups and at different levels of governance. Afrique du Sud SolidarMed | Während in den grossen Städten Südafrikas die besten Fussballer der Welt um Siege spielen, kämpfen grosse Teile der Bevölkerung im südlichen Afrika um ihr Überleben. Im Rahmen einer Sensibilisierungskampagne zu HIV/Aids gründen acht von SolidarMed unterstützte Gesundheitszentren Fussballteams und treten gegeneinander an. Gerade junge Männer sind für die HIV-Prävention und Behandlung nur schwer zu erreichen. Fussball hilft hier als Vermittler. 1:4 von SolidarMed steht für ein alternatives, echtes, afrikanisches Fussballturnier und einen viel härteren Gegner: HIV. Le Conseil national dit non à 0,5 % pour l'APD

Contrairement au Conseil des Etats il y a deux semaines, la Chambre basse, par 88 contre 84 voix, s’est ralliée à la tactique de retard du Conseil fédéral et a accepté le rapport sur le 0,5%.
