Workshop: Gender-transformative Approaches

MMS/ IAMANEH Medicus Mundi Switzerland in collaboration with IAMANEH Schweiz organised a 1 Day workshop on 22 May 2019 on how to apply gender-transformative approaches in sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence projects. The aim of the workshop was to convey to participants a clear understanding of what gender-transformative work means, how gender-transformative approaches can be applied in a specific context and what kind of self-reflection tools are available. We received great insights into gender-transformative work with youngsters at school in Albania from two local project staff. We learnt from IAMANEH’s experience in West Africa on how to transform gender norms through synchronized work with “mother’s clubs” by empowering women and “father’s clubs” with animated self-reflective sessions on gender roles and how to identify alternative behaviours. MMS together with IAMANEH will continue to work on this topic and make more knowledge and expertise available in the near future. (Photo: MMS)
