MMS Bulletin #160

In the clutches of the tobacco companies

Tobacco has been the cause of slavery, colonialism, exploitation, disease and death ever since its discovery. Tobacco companies and their machinations are primarily responsible for this. While concerted action by the global community has led to some success in the fight against tobacco use, the influence of the tobacco multinationals is still largely unchecked. Billions in profits, irresponsibility, corruption and interference in policy decisions, especially in low and middle-income countries, are responsible for a long list of threats to public health. You can read in this MMS Bulletin, produced in close cooperation with AT Switzerland, about the challenges and negative impacts on humans, the environment and social justice that will persist if this influence is not fundamentally changed.
