There is a growing number of countries experiencing fragile contexts and international health organisations are more and more confronted to work in such contexts. This poses great challenges to act properly, alleviate suffering, provide the needed health care and setting up health structures without contributing to a further destabilization of the public institutions and thus to the fragility and instability in the country. Building up on an earlier conference on “Health in Fragile Context” (August 2016), the MMS Symposium in November (2016) drew many lessons learnt, enabled networking and mutual learning – about a topic which does not provide easy solutions.
