Decision about sending Swiss troops postponed

Ebola, Syria and Iraq crises: the Federal Council grants an additional CHF 40 million

FDFA "The Federal Council wishes to strengthen Switzerland's support for Ebola victims and crisis-hit populations in Syria and Iraq. This Wednesday it decided to grant an additional CHF 40 million, which will be used equally in order to tackle these humanitarian crises. Part of this contribution will be financed by the FDFA, via the SDC. For the remaining CHF 17.5 million, the Federal Council is seeking approval from Parliament for additional funds."

"While Swiss Humanitarian Aid has already committed CHF 9 million to date to assist victims of the Ebola epidemic, in particular by sending medical equipment to the field, the Federal Council plans to free up an additional CHF 20 million. Switzerland's commitment in this context is focused on three priority areas: combating propagation of the virus through treatment and prevention, strengthening the health-care systems of affected countries and relieving the social and economic impact of the epidemic in these countries."

The decision about sending Swiss troops to west Africa was postponed (press release only in German and French available).
