AIDS and Livelihoods. Securing property and inheritance rights

Call for articles

“AIDS and Livelihoods. Securing property and inheritance rights” – this is the title of the reader of the aidsfocus.ch conference, No. 109 of the Bulletin of Medicus Mundi Switzerland. Conference and reader will look at the complex inter-relationships of HIV/AIDS, poverty and securing livelihoods in the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. These complex relationships crystallize in the issue of property and inheritance rights of women, children and old people. The example also shows the importance of a comprehensive and multisectoral approach and the cooperation of organisations in international health and AIDS with organisations that rather focus on agriculture and economic development. The papers of the conference will be published in the reader. Additional papers with stories, experiences, discussions and reflections on the issue will complement the picture.

Swiss Malaria Group

On 25 April 2008, World Malaria Day, the Swiss Malaria Group (SMG) – a Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) initiative – will be making its first official appearance before the Press in Basel. The Swiss Malaria Group consists of Swiss-based players from the public and private sectors, as well as from civil society, with the shared aim of spearheading the fight against an infectious disease that still kills a child every thirty seconds. The Swiss Tropical Institute, the SDC, the Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development, Novartis, Mepha, Syngenta, the Swiss Red Cross, the Medicines for Malaria Venture, Roll Back Malaria and Solidarmed are joining forces in the Swiss Malaria Group discussion platform to intensify their impact in the field.
