WHO Conference on Noncommunicable Diseases in Uruguay

WHO is committed to strengthening cooperation with civil society in the fight against noncommunicable diseases

devex.com Noncommunicable diseases have become a global epidemic, but national progress in most countries in the fight against these diseases is completely inadequate. Only few of the nations have yet delivered on their promises to implement national NCD plans and targets, which are the foundational building blocks of any response.

About one year before the planned "UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on NCDs" in September 2018, WHO warned at its Global Conference on Noncommunicable Diseases held in Montevideo that without decisive policy measures, the goal set by 2025 to reduce deaths due to noncommunicable diseases by 25%, can not be achieved. Indispensable is cooperation with civil society, who should account governments of their obligations.
